Greetings, my name is Greg Arthur and I am the pastor of Duneland Community Church. Thanks for taking the time to check out our church. I am so blessed to be the pastor of this wonderful community and I hope that you will take the time to come and worship with us. I encourage you to check out our blog and podcast to help you get to know us better. Here is some information to help you get to know me better. How did I get here? My wife Gretchen and our two children arrived here in Northwest Indiana in November of 2008. Previously we served at Christ United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill, NC. I was born into the Nazarene church and grew up attending Baltimore First Church of the Nazarene. I received my call into ministry at Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL during my sophomore year. At Wheaton I got my BA in Biblical Studies and Political Science. I then went to Denver Seminary and received my MDIV with a concentration in Organizational Leadership. While in Denver I served on the staff at Denver First Church of the Nazarene before becoming the Associate Pastor at Christ Church in North Carolina. What and who has influenced my ministry? Growing up my parents unquestionably had the largest impact on my faith. I grew up in a home where the Bible was taught and developed a real love for scripture at an early age. After going to Wheaton I immersed myself in a study of an ecclectic group of theologians, churches, and writers. I have been very influenced by time spent worshiping in an Anglican Church, my continued involvement with the emergent church, the incredible New Testament scholarship of Bishop NT Wright, the theology of worship I discovered from Dr. Robert Webber,12 years spent in the trenches of youth ministry, the sacramental theology of John Wesley, and the myriad of amazing mentors, professors, and friends I have had the privilege to be around. While I am an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene, I consider myself to have a generous orthodoxy, with many influences from the beautiful and wide spectrum of the Christian Church, and this can make me a little hard to categorize sometimes. I am passionately committed to helping the church discover how to effectively engage in the Missio Dei, the mission of God. I am passionate about scripture. I am passionate about developing leaders and helping to equip each Christian for ministry. I love Jesus and work hard to not get in the way of what he is doing in my life and those of our community. Do you have a life outside the church? I try to! I am a sports fanatic with lifelong allegiances to the Redskins, Maryland Terrapins, the Orioles, and the Washington Wizards. I am an avid reader, especially of spy novels, history, theology, and studies of human nature. I love movies, have way too much of my long term memory filled with the lyrics to Classic Rock songs, and try to spend 3 or 4 days a week at the gym. For the most part, when I am not working at church I am spending time with my family, which is my favorite place to be. Would you like to find out more? I am a writer, preacher, and theologian in progress and you check me out on the web even further.
